A city centre student run retail store has launched a sustainable clothes swap scheme to raise money and awareness for a brain injury charity.
Re:So, the Retail Solent Initiative, in the city’s Marland’s shopping centre wanted those unwanted clothes that clog up your wardrobe to be donated in exchange for a new outfit.
Re:So is open daily from 10am-5pm
Those with no clothes to exchange could still support the initiative and the charity by donating money in exchange for tokens.
The project helps promote a sustainable way to refresh your wardrobe and also raises money for charity.
Lauren hopes to set up her own event business
MA Creative Direction for Fashion and Beauty student and founder of the event Lauren Grist said: “I want people to say no to new clothes and yes to second hand. I want them to believe that sustainability can be stylish too. It is good to see that people are trying their best to avoid fast fashion and shopping more consciously. There are so many clothes here that need a new home.”
Anna, a 19-year-old shopper, said: “I have so many items in my room which I have not used in such a long time. I heard about this event through social media, and I thought it is a great initiative. I am happy that I donated my belongings here. It is for a good cause.”
Items donated have included bridesmaid dresses, blazers, boots, and bags.
The event took place from 2-5 pm and to participate in the event there was an entry fee of one-pound.
Re: So also has a scheme called Beauty Banks drop off, where people can donate items like shampoo, body wash, razors, sanitary pads, baby products and much more, to help end hygiene poverty.
